Mornington is located on Port Phillip Bay, approximately 52kms south of Melbourne.

Port Phillip Bay covers a total of almost 1950 square kilometers.  Most of the bay is no deeper than 8m, with the greatest depth only 24m.  The three major benthic habitat types in Port Phillip Bay are reefs, seagrass and soft sediments This allows a plethora of marine vegetation to thrive, therefore providing the food necessary to maintain a lively ecosystem within the bays’ limits.

The coastline around Mornington is made up of a series of sandstone rocky outcrops and headlands, in between which lay sandy bays, with outer reefs and weed patches.

The Mornington Pier acts as a breakwater and creates a safe harbour for boats in the area.  With café, kiosk, parking and public toilets close by it is a great spot for a quick fish day or night.  Located past the Mornington Yacht Club is the boat ramp and carpark.  All of these options offer anglers a great day (or night) getting their lines wet!
